Connections: No Human Is an Island is an interactive web documentary and cross-platform project, conceptualized and orchestrated by director Suvi Andrea Helminen, produced by Ulrik Gutkin, CFC Short & Doc, and co-created with more than 40 people around the world.
I joined those 40 people in April as a co-director. Since then, we have been interviewing people and directing them into recording their lives during the first lockdown in 2020. With this project, I’ve met people that otherwise I wouldn’t have, and I pushed my boundaries as a documentary director working remotely with people who don’t have any technical skills. With our knowledge and their willingness, we are putting together an exciting project.
Although the project is still in progress, there have been outdoor screenings in Copenhagen and an online premiere at CPH:DOX 2021.
